Artist Maria McDonald was commissioned by Manorhamilton Historical Society in 2005 to create a painting of how the Castle would have appeared in the 17th century. She based her work on the layout of the current ruins, historical images and all available information on the appearance and design of the building. Her careful research ensured that the painting is a very accurate representation of the architecture and scale of Manorhamilton Castle within its bawn enclosure.
Her fine painting creates an imposing image of how the Castle must have looked when it was inhabited. It is on public display in Manorhamilton Library and is a very impressive oil-on-canvas. This invaluable resource will undoubtedly be of great assistance for generations to come in visualising this key part of our local history.
